NEED TO KNOW – Volume 9

CONDORSTOWN, Calif.  The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, are set for the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2015-16. Throughout the offseason, the team will give you a “What you need to know” synopsis around the world of hockey.
1. 2014-15 IS OFFICIALLY OVER
  • Just like that, three leagues decided a champion on back-to-back-to-back days. First, theManchester Monarchs (LA Kings), who are moving to become the Ontario Reign in 2015-16, won the AHL’s Calder Cup on Saturday in five games. Then, the Allen Americans took home the ECHL’s Kelly Cup on Sunday in Game 7. And last night, the Chicago Blackhawks won their third NHL Stanley Cup in six years with a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6.
  • 19 members of the Blackhawks played in the AHL, including Conn Smythe (Playoffs MVP) winner Duncan Keith
  • Fun fact courtesy of AHL PR: Patrick Sharp, who has now won three Stanley Cups, is one of 127 players to win both the Calder Cup and the Stanley Cup.
  • The #StanleyCupMoments closing video is a must-watch.
