Penalties hamper Condors in 4-1 loss to Vegas
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (3-3-1-0, 7pts) found themselves on the wrong end of four, 5-on-3 power plays and fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers (4-3-0-1, 9pts) by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 5,699 at Rabobank Arena. C Mathew Sisca tallied the lone goal for the Condors on the night.
After a good opening shift from the Condors to begin the first period, Las Vegas was able to get a clearance down to the Bakersfield end. The clearing effort was mishandled by G Bryan Pitton and left Wranglers F Robbie Smith all alone in front of a vacated net to put Las Vegas in front, 1-0, 1:19 into the game. The Condors answered with a tying goal at the 3:36 mark when Sisca scored from the left-wing point on a shot that found its way into the back of the net past Wranglers G Joe Fallon. D Joe Loprieno and F Peter Boyd collected assists on Sisca’s second goal of the season. Shots in the first period were 15-13 in favor of Las Vegas.
The Wranglers tallied the lone goal of the second period to increase their lead, 2-1. After a failed clearing attempt by the Condors, F Judd Blackwater gloved the puck out of midair, collected it, and snapped a shot past Pitton at 11:40. Shots favored the Wranglers, 16-6.
Las Vegas added two insurance goals in a period where the Condors were down two men on two separate occasions. F Eric Lampe scored his fifth goal in two games and made it 3-1 on a five-on-three power play as he banged a rebound past Pitton just 3:16 into the period. F Adam Miller capped the scoring at 8:32 of the period, finishing off a two-on-one rush, and finishing off the Condors by a final of 4-1.
