Stockton fights off the Condors in preseason finale, 3-1
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors opened the scoring for the second night in a row, but couldn’t hold back the Stockton Thunder, taking a 3-1 loss Saturday in front of 3,659 at Rabobank Arena.
The Condors first goal came just 1:31 into the contest, as rookie C Mathew Sisca staked the home team to a 1-0 lead. As was the case Friday night in Stockton, the Condors parade to the penalty box thwarted their momentum. They were shorthanded four times over the rest of the first period and couldn’t add to their lead.
Stockton tied the game at 11:04 with a tally by D Colten Hayes, his first of the night. The two clubs each posted nine shots in the period, which also featured a fight between Condors D Erik Burgdoerfer and Thunder RW Cameron Abney. Bakersfield led in shots 20-17 through 40 minutes.
In the third the Thunder pushed in front for good with a pair of tallies. Hayes notched his second of the night as the eventual game winner at 3:02. Later, LW Ian O’Connor added some insurance with a tally in tight on Condors G Bryan Pitton to make it 3-1.
