Stockton holds off the Condors, 4-2

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (7-21-1-2, 17pts) scored the first goal of the night and the last goal of the night, but in between, the Stockton Thunder (16-9-3-3, 38pts) scored four straight to take the 4-2 win Thursday night at Rabobank Arena.

Highlights from the game

With just over five minutes remaining in the opening stanza the Condors drew first blood. F David Toews banged in a rebound off a shot from F Liam Huculak to make it 1-0. However, within 60 seconds, Bakersfield took two penalties to provide the Thunder with a 5-on-3 power play. Stockton promptly converted on both to turn a 1-0 Bakersfield lead into a 2-1 Thunder advantage.

In an evenly-matched second period Stockton scored the only goal. D Teigan Zahn punched in his third of the season at 7:51 to make it 3-1 Stockton. Shots were 10-10 in the period.

Stockton added some insurance early in the third, with C Phil Mangan’s goal just 1:50 in. Bakersfield kept fighting, though, and pulled back within two at 8:09, with C Levi Nelson netting his team-leading ninth of the campaign. The Condors had a pair of late power plays to close the gap, but could not convert, falling 4-2.
