Thunder drops Condors, 3-1
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (5-15-3-0, 13pts) opened the scoring, but surrendered three straight goals to the visiting Stockton Thunder (11-8-1-2, 25pts), falling 3-1 in front of 4,151 fans Friday night at Rabobank Arena.
The first period was scoreless, but not without highlights. There were several good hits, key saves by Bakersfield G Matt Keetley and Stockton G Thomas Heemskerk, and a fight near the end of the period between Condors LW Hans Benson and Thunder D Sebastian Owuya.
A major power play carryover at the beginning of the second led to the first two goals of the game. The Condors took a 1-0 lead on C Robby Dee’s sixth goal of the season at :52. However, 20 seconds later the Thunder tied it up with a shorthanded odd-man rush. In the final minute of the period RW Kevin Baker’s shot deflected off a Condors skate and in to make it 2-1.
The Thunder scored the only goal of the final period, with LW Ian O’Connor redirecting a shot past Keetley to account for the final margin. The Condors were outshot 38-32.
