Tordjman shines as Condors roll to first win of the season, 5-0
Oct. 22, 2010
West Valley City, UTAH – G Josh Tordjman recorded a 35-save shutout and the Bakersfield Condors (1-1-0-0, 2pts) picked up their first win of the season, dropping the Utah Grizzlies (1-1-1-0, 3pts) 5-0 in front of 5,228 fans at Maverik Center Friday night.
Despite a 12-4 shot advantage in the first period by Utah, Bakersfield took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. C Adam Naglich broke free from the penalty box and finished off a 2-on-1 with F Jean-Marc Beaudoin for his first of the season at 8:46. RW Stephane Goulet took advantage of a strange ricochet at 12:19 and deposited his 2nd of the season into a practically open net to make it 2-0. Tordjman earned his first start of the season for the Condors, while the Grizzlies countered with former ECHL Goaltender of the Year J.P. Lamoureux.
The Condors were opportunistic in the second period as well, lighting the lamp twice on their first three shots of the frame. C Rylan Kaip snapped home a centering feed from LW Mika Suoraniemi to make it 3-0 at 9:06. The Condors Captain set up Goulet just over two minutes later for his second goal of the night. Tordjman made 25 saves through 40 minutes of play.
D Antonin Manavian padded the lead with a third period power play goal for Bakersfield, and Tordjman did the rest. he made 10 saves in the third frame and 35 on the night to backstop Bakersfield to their first shutout since Valentine’s Day last season (Tyler Sims).
Notes from the Nest:
RW J.D. Corbin took a hit from behind into the boards late in the second period and did not return to the game. Manavian skated as a forward for the third period… The shutout was the 10th of Tordjman’s career… Recently reassigned RW Pascal Morency did not make the trip to Utah with the team… Three stars: 1. Tordjman (BAK); 2. Goulet (BAK); 3. Suoraniemi (BAK).
