Weekly Update: 72 games in the books; Playoffs up next!

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, ran their winning streak to six games before falling on “Undie Sunday” in the regular season finale.

The Condors finish with a 36-30-2-4 record and 78 points, and tied with Colorado for the 5th most points in the Western Conference. Bakersfield was relegated to the 6th seed, however, by virtue of win pct. They open the best-of-seven WCQF matchup against the #3 Utah Grizzlies this weekend before returning home next week for games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary).

Notes from the Nest:

  • G Laurent Brossoit went 2-0-0 and gave up only three goals in his final regular season week, securing the league lead in wins, goals against average and shutouts. He finished second in win pct.
  •   The Condors had the biggest turnaround in the ECHL from 2012-13, raising their win total by 16. Both the Condors and the Orlando Solar Bears had a 28-point increase from the previous season to top the league.
  • C Greg Miller (7th), F Chase Schaber (13th), and C Matt Thurber (t-16th) each finished among the top scoring rookies in the ECHL.
  • RW Jordan Knackstedt notched an assist with 62 seconds left in the regular season to slide into a tie for the team scoring lead, along with mid-season acquisition C Greg Miller.
  • Playoff rosters were due to the ECHL office on Monday and will be announced later this week.
  • Bakersfield finished 4th in the league in penalty killing, at 85.9.
